Holiday goodies are everywhere

People keep saying that the gift giving has gotten out of control over the years but honestly when did stuffing yourself with every sweet become part of the holiday ritual.
It starts with the endless flow of candy at Halloween and really doesn’t end until January 1 when people step on their scale and realize that a diet has to be the first thing on their new year agenda.
My mother knows a woman that bakes cookies, delicious treats with real butter and wonderful frosting. Linda has every cookie cutter that was ever been made and she decorates them so beautifully that you forget that each one has many calories in them.
Every holiday mom places an order for the treats, and they are so hard to resist but this year I have to forget about them and focus on the finish line. Knowing Linda, she has a cookie cutter for just that occasion as well.

After Halloween, I took two-thirds of my son’s candy to work just to get it out of the house.
After Thanksgiving, I took a full pumpkin pie to work so I wouldn’t be tempted.
Christmas is coming and my wife will come home from her annual cookie exchange with 12 dozen cookies. Some of those will end up in care packages for neighbors but a lot will have no home.
Ordinarily, I’d take a lot of those cookies to work but I’ll be unemployed by then.
What do the unemployed and those who work from home do with all their leftover and unwanted treats?
Also, are there etiquette lessons you have to teach on the subject of bringing treats to work?
With alcoholics, there is a fine line between treating them like little children and making sure they are never near liquor and being equally rude by asking them to help mix the drinks since, after all, they know something about cocktails.
Coming into the holiday treats season, do you have any protocol suggestions for us?
