Five Pounds Down: No Longer Obese, Just Fat

I am sorry that my blog has been under construction this week. I appreciate all the comments that have been posted. I know how hard it is to lose weight especially with the Halloween candy just begging to be eaten.
It has been 10 days since I promised Joy Bauer on national TV that I would use her new diet plan to get off my last 23 pounds. I have been on the straight and narrow since then.
I am working up a sweat, drinking plenty of water, watching my starches and staying away from salt and sugar.
Drum roll please: 5.5 pounds in just 10 days. Along with those pounds came the big hurdle that according to the Body Mass Index, or as I like to call it the Biased Male Indictor, I am no longer obese just fat. Yea!
My weight loss journey has had many bumps in the road but humor has gotten me through the tough times. Even though funny fat girl isn’t as chubby as she once was, I can still laugh at life, especially my own.
I can’t wait to hear how you all are doing in your efforts lose those pesky pounds.

What a fabulous trip to New York City!
I have been truly blessed with such great friends and family that have supported me through the last five years. My dream of becoming overcoming obesity is within my grasp.

Monday morning and I was just trying to get through the piece and not swear or fall on my butt. I did what I accomplished and saw how the great news show I have watched for years really ticks. It seemed like every turn had a new face that seemed familiar. Kathie Lee, Hoda, Al and all the gang; I was star struck. As we were leaving Leonard Dicaprio walked by my sister-in-law and she went weak in the knees.
Joy Bauer and her wonderful staff are going to guide me to the finish line. Yep, I still have 23 pounds to go. No more chocolate and no more excuses. It is time to really put down my fork, move my butt and get the rest of the weight off.
I got a sneak look at Joy’s new book, “Joy’s LIFE Diet: Four Steps to Thin Forever. ” It is filled with great ideas and a sensible eating plan that I know will work for many others and me.
The behind the scenes life at the “Today Show” was a great time. Wonderful and caring people were there to make the process fun and easy. It was my first time on TV and I was a bite nervous to say the least.
If you missed the piece you can check it out on MSNBC and right here. Here are some more photos from the trip:

The Today Show sent a driver to the airport to pick up my sister-in-law, Coco, and me. I had to snap a picture of the gentleman waiting for us. Not an everyday occurrence, that’s for sure. Coco and I then went for an all day walk through the city, 11 miles and a great time of seeing the upper West side and Central Park. The great thing about New York is that you can get quite the workout by just walking the streets and drinking in all that the city has to offer.

My new friend, Joy, my sister-in-law, Coco, and me. Not often you get to sit on the set of the “Today Show.” The crew was great and they took advantage of the free items in the vending machine after the segment was done. Today Show staffer, Emily Goldberg made everything so easy and was there for me every step of the way.

I left the “old Lisa” behind on the set. I can’t wait to see what I look like after I use Joy’s new eating plan and ramp up my workouts.

I went to Ohio University at the same time with Matt Lauer. We had classes in RTV building and I remember riding the elevator with him on many occasions. He wasn’t there on Monday, so I did the next best thing; I went over to the NBC store and snapped a picture of me next to his life-size cut out. Truly, a trip of a lifetime.

Who ever would have guessed that I could overcome obesity? Not me!
So I put down my fork and started to move my butt.

My tall friend weighs about as much as I lost -- 177 pounds.Who ever would have guessed that I could overcome obesity? Not me! At 340 pounds, I could no longer ignore my obvious problem with food.
My 6-foot-5 friend here represents approximately how much weight I have lost –177 pounds.
I can’t imagine carrying the equivalent of him around on my back 24-7 for nearly 20 years, but I did.
On Monday, October 6, I was inducted into the “Today” show’s Joy Fit Club for people who have lost over 100 pounds through diet and exercise.
Nutritionist, Joy Bauer, started the popular segment for NBC. During the interview process for the program she listened to my story and challenged me to finish what I started by using her new book, “Joy’s LIFE Diet: Four Steps to Thin Forever.”
I have been at my present plateau for over 2 years because I have learned to cheat and maintain. I set out five years ago to lose a total of 200 pounds, and now it is time to take off the rest and finish what I started with Joy’s help. Follow along as I learn better eating habits and continue to move my butt.
